Your weight loss regimen doesn’t have to be restricted to cutting calories and exercising each day to shed those extra kilos. Instead, adopt an ayurvedic approach, the ancient holistic science, to ensure effective weight loss.

This ancient healing system balances all the elements of the body to achieve perfect health and ideal weight. Ayurvedic techniques maintain efficient metabolism in the body and increases natural breakdown of fats. Here are some quick Ayurvedic techniques that can help control or lose weight.

Hydrate With Warm Water

According to vedic texts, warm water is a natural detoxifier. Warm water sweeps up impurities as it travels through digestive system and flushes away particles left by undigested food which could be the reason behind slow metabolism.

The metabolic rate can be increased swiftly by replacing sugary beverages like soda and cold drinks with warm water. It will also reduce the calorie count per day. Warm water dilates the muscles which allow efficient assimilation and absorption of contents of the meal.

The ideal time to drink water is right after waking up in the morning. Drink water one hour before and one hour after each meal. Avoid drinking water right after the meal which will cause weight gain.

Mindful Eating

Various studies have proved that people who eat quickly are more likely to be overweight as compared to those who take time. Mindful eating is about being conscious while eating. Zoning out or multi-tasking, while eating, will weaken the digestive process and lead to increase in weight. It is imperative to eat mindfully for proper digestion of food.

In order to lose weight, following points should be followed:

  • Avoid cold foods, ice cold water and drinks
  • Quit drinking alcohol and smoking
  • Avoid eating heavy foods in large quantities
  • Refrain from eating canned or processed foods with coloring
  • Avoid cruciferous vegetables and fried foods
  • Do not talk or laugh while eating

Follow the following steps to increase the digestive power while losing weight:

  • Eat fresh and seasonal vegetables and fruits
  • Eat food which has oil and is moist enough
  • Eat three meals a day and avoid snacks in-between meals
  • Eat only when you are hungry
  • Eat only after previous food is digested
  • Eat light meals for breakfast and dinner and heavy meals for lunch

Relaxation And Oxygen

Relaxation and oxygen are essential nutrients to achieve balance in life. Practice yoga, pranayama and meditation daily.

  • Breathing and Pranayama - We can become aware of negativity and the disturbance of mind by simply observing the breathing. It becomes pure and serene when we are aware of what is happening inside. Practicing pranayma not only improves the digestion but also strengthens the heart and lungs.
  • Yoga - Gentle yoga asanas like the fish, the camel, cow and cobra stretch and strengthen the muscles and lubricates the joints. These postures massage the internal organs and increase the blood circulation throughout the body.

Herbal Aids

  • Mix 3 parts kutki, 3 parts chitrak, 2 parts shilajit and 5 parts punarnava. Take this mixture with honey twice a day.
  • Taking triphala every night can be extremely helpful. Pour 1 teaspoon of triphala in 1 cup of boiling water and let it sleep for 10 minutes. Drink it every night after dinner.
