Candida or Thrush Infection is a common fungal infection caused by Candida fungus growth. Candida is present in smaller quantities inside the throat, digestive system and mouth of all the human being. It is not a problem until it changes into fungal form. These fungal produce rhizoids that can cause spores throughout the intestinal wall. It leaks undigested food into the bloodstream. Candida overgrowth is not difficult to recognize through lab testing. However, the actual diagnosis can be difficult to obtain because the symptoms may be associated with other diseases.
What is Candida?
Candidiasis is a fungal infection of any species from the genus of yeasts. It exists in all human being who are healthy, especially in skin, but Candida growth is limited by the immunity power of the human being.
Causes of Candida Fungal Infection
Many predisposing factors may lead to candidiasis, yeast infection. These factors may include:
Candidiasis causes an imbalance of microorganism in the intestine by killing the good bacteria inside and leaving behind bad Candida cells. Once the immune system gets damaged, it may not be able to repel the invaders. Candida infects the organ and tissues of the muscles and affects the entire immune system.
Candida infection in mouth develops in people having diseases like cancer or AIDS. These can also develop in people having diabetes or who are having irritation from dentures. Tight clothing and hot weather can also be one of the causes of Candida or Vaginal thrush infection.
In ayurveda, Candida is immunity disorder caused by deficiency in OJA. OJA is an immunity power of the body, which prevents the growth of the foreign particles or microbes in the body. The deficiency in OJA is resulted from the poor dietary habits, ill lifestyle, indigestion, poor metabolic power of the body and imbalances in the three humors.
The other cause may be undigested food or AMA (Toxins). The disease can result from the by-products of undigested food. The by-product is then absorbed in the blood stream, creating toxins that will lead to many health issues. As the by-products accumulate in the large and small intestine, it will ferment, inhibiting the normal flora from proliferating.
Thereafter, the over growth of Candida fungus will lead to intestinal absorption of the by-products into the liver and blood. It is believed in Ayurveda that once the yeast enters into the blood, it will damage the processing of the seven tissues of the body consisting plasma, muscle, blood, fat, nervous tissue, bone, ovum and sperm.

Fresh extracts of garlic (Allium sativum L.) were used to assess potential therapeutic use of this herb as an anticryptococcal agent. The in vitro antifungal activity in broth showed greatest activity in the aqueous extract compared to the alcoholic, crude or commercial extracts.
Some other researchers have also highlighted the antifungal activity of garlic, some of the prominent researches include the antifungal reports on garlic (Kabelik, 1970; Tansey & Appleton, 1975; Moore & Atkins, 1977; Prasad & Sharma, 1981; Yoshida et al., 1987), especially the report of Davis et al. (1990) who explored antifungal activity in human CSF and plasma after i.v. administration of garlic to some patients with cryptococcal meningitis further validated the anticryptococcal activity in experimental murine disseminated cryptococcosis. This work definitely brings to light the potential of garlic to serve as an anticryptococcal herbal medicine.
