Chanadanasavam is an ayurvedic herbal drink that is considered useful and beneficial for kidneys and other parts of urinary system. It has anti-microbial properties and given in urinary tract infections (UTI). Chandanasavam has cool potency and reduces body heat. It is useful in night falls, burning sensation of urine and dysuria.

 

 

Main Ingredients of Chanadanasava

 

 

Santalum album or heart wood is main ingredient on which Chanadanasavam is named. Besides this, it also contains Cyperus rotundus, Gmelina arbora, Symplocos racemosa, Rubia cordifolia, Pterocarpus santalinus and Luffa acutangula etc.

 

 

Pharmacological action of Chanadanasavam

 

 

In ayurveda modality of health sciences, chanadanasavam destroys heat inside the body and cools the urinary system as well. It is said in ayurveda, excessive heat in the body is one of main factor responsible for night fall. Therefore, it helps to reduce body heat and treat the problem of night fall.

 

 

Chanadanasavam gives strength to the urinary organs including kidneys and aids to detoxify both kidneys. Toxins are removed through urine from the kidneys by which kidney’s health is maintained. Chanadanasavam also precludes protein loss in urine so it becomes beneficial in albuminuria.

 

 

Chanadanasavam has anti-microbial action. It fights off urinary infections and reduces burning sensation in urine. In clinical experiences of many ayurvedic doctors, it is found that it reduces pus cells in urine and prevents recurrence of frequent urinary tract infections. In chronic and obstinate cases of UTI, Chanadanasavam is prescribed by most of traditional doctors with other organic herbal medicines.

 

 

Chanadanasavam also has properties of appetizer due to some herbs that works on balancing gastric secretions and liver functions. The common herb is Cyperus rotundus, which increases appetite. In chronic kidney failure, when patients experiences emaciation and loss of appetite, Chanadanasavam can become ayurvedic remedy of choice.

 

 

Uses and indications of Chanadanasavam

 

 

  1. Urinary tract infections (UTI)
  2. Burning urination
  3. Emaciation, loss of appetite and debility due to kidney disease
  4. Proteinuria or albuminuria
  5. Night fall
  6. Leucorrhea or Vaginitis
  7. Frequent urination especially due pita type
  8. Edema due to heart disease or kidney disease
  9. Chronic kidney failure
  10. Poly cystic kidney disease
  11. Increase Pitta Sign in Skin 

 

 

Side effects of Chanadanasavam

 

 

If patient is suffering from diabetes mellitus, Chanadanasavam should not be taken. 

There is no side effects mentioned in ayurvedic texts or reported by clients as such from prescribed therapeutic dosage of this preparation. It is advisable that ayurvedic medicine and treatment are generally considered to be safe when taken under the supervision and guidance of an Ayurvedic Doctor, but rarely may be associated with possible adverse reactions in individual cases. We recommend seeking urgent medical attention in the case of an adverse reaction.
