Chanadanasavam is an Ayurveda herbal drink that is considered useful and beneficial for kidneys and other parts of urinary system. It has anti-microbial properties and given in urinary tract infections (UTI). Chandanasavam has cooling potency and helps to reduce body heat. It is useful in night falls, burning sensation of urine and dysuria.
Main Ingredients of Chanadanasava
Santalum album or heart sandal wood is main ingredient on which Chanadanasavam is named. Besides this, it also contains Cyperus rotundus, Gmelina arbora, Symplocos racemosa, Rubia cordifolia, Pterocarpus santalinus and Luffa acutangula etc.
Ayurveda Pharmacological action of Chanadanasavam
In Ayurveda modality of health sciences, chanadanasavam destroys heat inside the body and cools the urinary system as well. It is said in Ayurveda, excessive heat in the body is one of main factor responsible for night fall. Therefore, it helps to reduce body heat and treat the problem of night fall.
Chanadanasavam may give strength to the urinary organs including kidneys and aids to detoxify both kidneys. Toxins are removed through urine from the kidneys by which kidney’s health is maintained. Chanadanasavam may also help to reduce protein loss in urine so it becomes beneficial in albuminuria.
Chanadanasavam has been considered to have anti-microbial action. It helsp to fight off urinary infections and helsp to reduce burning sensation in urine. In clinical experiences of many Ayurvedic doctors, it is found that it reduces pus cells in urine and prevents recurrence of frequent urinary tract infections. In chronic and obstinate cases of UTI, Chanadanasavam is prescribed by most of traditional doctors with other organic herbal medicines.
Chanadanasavam also has properties of appetizer due to some herbs that works on balancing gastric secretions and liver functions. The common herb is Cyperus rotundus, which increases appetite.

Side effects of Chanadanasavam
If patient is suffering from diabetes mellitus, Chanadanasavam should not be taken.
There is no side effects mentioned in Ayurveda texts or reported by clients as such from prescribed therapeutic dosage of this preparation. It is advisable that Ayurveda medicine and treatment are generally considered to be safe when taken under the supervision and guidance of a Qualified and Registered Ayurveda Doctor, but rarely may be associated with possible adverse reactions in individual cases.
