Treatment with Ayurvedic Medicine For Constipation

In Ayurvedic terms, constipation is referred to as “malabhaddata”. It occurs when the vata dosha of our body fails to work properly. As per the principles of Ayurveda, vata dosha is present near the large intestine and its main function is to regulate bowel movements. When the vata dosha doesn’t function properly, it can lead to excessive dryness of stools, leading to impaired bowel movement which causes constipation.

Herbs For Natural Treatment For Severe Constipation

There are different herbs that can help in treating constipation. Here are some of them.

It is essentially a brown powder that comprises three plants namely amla, baheda and harad. Harad works as a natural laxative and even as an astringent that helps in the efficient working of the stomach. It loosens the hard stools and also comes with anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties too. Amla is a mild laxative and it can help cool down the lining of the stomach and even cut down inflammation issues as well. To get relief from constipation, all you need to do is take 2 teaspoons of Triphala along with a glass full of lukewarm water. Make sure not to eat anything after this solution.

A research paper published by AKS Rawat et al mentions the effectiveness of Triphala churna in the treatment of constipation. It is a powder made by grinding three kinds of fruits or herbs. 3 to 6 grams of this powder or 2- 3 tablets taken at the time of going to bed with warm water or milk helps in having a clean bowel motion the next morning.

Haritki (Terminalia chebula):

Haritki, known by the botanical Terminalia chebula, is grown across India. It primarily consists of chebulagic, corilagin and chebulinic acid. The fruits of this herb have a laxative property and are mainly used for the sake of balancing the digestive system. It has the power to increase the frequency with which stools are removed from the body and can evacuate your bowels completely. It also removes parasites and aids in better functioning of the colon.

In a report published by WHO on ‘Traditional Herbal Medicines for Primary Health Care’ mentions the benefits of haritaki in the treatment of constipation. Haritaki has laxative, carminative, digestive, antispasmodic, anthelmintic, anti-microbial, anti-stress and endurance-promoting properties. To achieve laxative action of Haritaki, the adult dose of powder is 3 to 6 grams and for children, the dose of Haritaki is 500 mg to 1 gram, to be taken with lukewarm water once a day on an empty stomach. It is preferably taken early in the morning or a minimum of three hours after dinner. Haritaki is very useful in constipation and associated gastrointestinal disorders.

Isabgol made of 70 per cent soluble fibre, it acts as an efficient laxative which is used to treat a lot of different digestive problems. It mainly increases the amount of bulk that is present in your stools. It also increases the amount of water that is present in your stools. The actual dosage is going to vary from person to person and also depends upon the extent of constipation problem. However, ideally, 2 teaspoons of isabgol with 8 oz of fluid seems to be apt for your use.

A study by Vipin Kumar on the uses of isabgol husk throws light on its laxative properties among many others. Psyllium Husk significantly increases stool moisture, as well as wet and dry stool weight. When taken with a sufficient amount of liquid (at least 30 ml per 1 gm of the husk), it produces an increased volume of intestinal contents due to its highly bulking properties and hence a stretch stimulus occurs which triggers defecation. At the same time, the swollen mass of mucilage forms a lubricating layer which makes the transit of intestinal contents easier.

These are the herbs that can aid in the treatment of constipation. You can procure all these herbs at Pure Herbal Ayurveda Clinic. Feel free to consult the Ayurveda doctors to be sure of the right ways of consuming them.

Constipation Ayurveda Natural Remedies

There are different therapies that can be administered on the basis of Ayurveda to treat the problems of constipation. Here are the ones which can be used.

Panchakarma Detoxification

Panchkarma detox, as the name implies, it is a set of five different therapies and it brings about complete detoxification of the body. All these five therapies will work on different parts of your body and will remove all traces of toxins and thereby cleanse your body completely.

Virechan, also known as medicated purgation therapy helps in removing the pitta toxins which are mostly found in the gallbladder and liver. When this therapy is carried out, it will cleanse the gastrointestinal tract meticulously and thus offer you immense relief from the troubles of constipation.

Once again, it is important to note that Ayurveda therapies should be implemented after consultation with Ayurvedic doctors. You can find Ayurvedic doctors at Pure Herbal Ayurvedic Clinic, Melbourne. We all have a specific body type and this is why consultation from Ayurvedic doctors is recommended.

Yoga to Treat Constipation

The field of Ayurveda believes very strongly in yoga. As the Ayurvedic belief states that consultation is mainly caused because the vata dosha failing to work properly, yoga is strongly recommended for this disease. If anxiety or angst is one possible cause for the problem, it is best advised to carry out yoga.

There are various yoga asanas (postures) that can be of help. Try and master your skill in mayur asana (Peacock pose) and halasana (plough pose). Along with it, baddha konasana (butterfly pose) and pavan muktasana (wind relieving pose) seem to be apt for dealing with constipation. Make sure to learn the steps of carrying out this asana and then implement them.

Natural Ways to Relieve Constipation

In order to be relieved from the troubles of constipation, you need to bring about some lifestyle changes. You have to be sure that you avoid negative energy from your life. At the same time, inculcate habits like yoga and meditation because they bring in better circulation of positive energy. You are advised to take a walk in the garden early in the morning and drink plenty of water so that your bowel movements stay perfect.

These are some tips and points which will help you in gaining a better understanding of how to get rid of constipation. However, you are advised never to opt for self-medication as it can be an extremely dangerous thing to do. You can reach out to Ayurvedic doctor Gurnam Saini or Pooja Saini who specialises in Ayurveda and practices at Pure Herbal Ayurvedic Clinic. • 3+ years ago just before covid hit, I had sudden intolerance to a string of food predominantly gluten, cow's milk, egg and night shade vegetables. Energy was low and brain was foggy. I consulted and tried other treatments but minimal improvement. I was recommended to Drs Saini and Pooja by a friend who came out of her issues after ayurvedic treatments. Without hesitation, i consulted and started my ayurvedic journey 2+ years ago. It was the best decision I made. During those time, I had 2 sessions of panchakarma treatments. 2+ years later, I can now confidently say that I am able to incorporate gluten and cows milk products into my diet without any issue. My energy is back to normal and the other bonus for me is that unnecessary food cravings have diminished. I am very grateful and appreciated Drs Saini & Pooja's dedication and patient throughout my ayurvedic journey...

  • After struggling for years with energy levels, food intolerances and sleep issues with our daughter, we tried Dr Saini. The results for her have been outstanding. Her food intolerances (she was on a strict FODMAP diet) have all but disappeared. Her sleep is consistent and better. Her ability to regulate herself across an entire day (without falling into a heap) has improved her life quality 100 fold. His approach is thoughtful and considered. We always feel like he listens to all aspects of her health and adapts his methods to what she needs next. I would highly recommend working with Dr Saini to anyone considering it.

  • I cannot recommend highly enough. This has been my first experience with Ayurvedic medicine and the Panchakarma cleanse and I can finally say that after years of striving for better health and wellbeing, I finally understand what is going to work for me moving forward. Having experience a traumatic event and subsequent PTSD 5 years ago, my gut and my body became increasingly compromised. In this time I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, complex regional pain syndrome and various ailments of the gut. I came to see Dr Saini and Pooja at a time that I felt frustrated with my years of work to see some more obvious progress with my healing. Having completed the Panchakarma cleanse, I am feeling fully renewed. Awake. Settled. I no longer struggle to wake each morning and get through each day. My appetite feels steady and all cravings have completely ceased. I now have some tools under my belt to fall back on when I know my digestive system needs a break. This cleanse has been a complete game changer. Thankyou Dr Saini and Pooja for you incredible guidance and support. Liz

  • I started to get depressive mood and nightmares since diagnosed with varicocele and hydrocele. Specialist recommended me getting coil embolization to block the veins. I was hesitant with the idea of it and ignored his advice. I thought I would try with natural approach to deal with my health issues. After reading online I started to make healthy changes in my life-style and food regime e.g. avoiding inflammatory and junk food, energy drinks etc. Also reduced smoking and alcohol for 3 months. But my pain and swelling in the scrotal area did not improve. More over I started to get lack of libido, premature ejaculation and erectile difficulties. Due to that I started to remain frustrated and angry most of the time. My relationship with my family members, friends and partner started to get difficult. Finally came across Dr Saini ayurvedic medicine clinic in Melbourne. Had a detial consult with Dr Saini. His Ayurveda approach for varicocele and its related problem worked like magic for me. First month he modified my life-style and food, based on my ayurvedic makeup. He also introduced some his own blends of organic herbs and spices with daily breathing exercise. In second month I did panchakarma detoxification. Now there is no pain or swelling in my scrotal area. My manpower is back to normal (even better than earlier), having grounded emotions and sound sleep with best physical and mental health. I highly recommend everyone to follow ayurvedic life style and its natural way of healing your body. Dr Saini is best in his job.
