When the menstrual cycle of women fails to work naturally, it leads to menstrual disorder. There are a lot of different problems that fall under this category and the severity and symptoms can vary a great deal too.
Ayurvedic Background of Menstruation
If we take a look at the ayurvedic background of this disease, we will find that ayurveda believes most of these menstrual issues are related to inappropriate diet and lifestyle habits. Even when, one is eating a healthy food, but the digestive fire or so called agni is not ignited well, it may lead to menstrual issues as well.
Ayurveda believes that when the natural balance of your body is disturbed and the flow of hormones get disrupted because of psychological reason or even otherwise, it can lead to menstrual problems.
Ayurveda believes in bringing the right changes in lifestyle as it can reflect on your overall body functioning.
Ayurveda has suggested a range of herbs that have been used traditionally to support healthy menstrual cycle:
Shatvari (Asparagus racemosus)
Giloy (Tinospora cordifolia)
Panchkarma Detox is an ayurvedic detoxification therapy that involves 5 different treatment methods to help cleanse the body from undesired ama or so called toxins. These five therapies help the three humours vata, pitta and kapha bring back to equilibrium and promote good health. This is mainly a purification therapy wherein possible sources of toxin are removed and cleansed from the body to offer improved immunity and respite from problems.
An ayurvedic doctor may suggest one or more of these five panchkarma therapies to the client after detailed assessment of the health condition.
Virechan (Herbal Purgation):
Virechan is the herbal purgation that has main emphasis on alleviating excess pitta dosh. In this therapy, the doshas are expelled through the anal passage and thereby aid in cleaning of the digestive tract. Although it mainly works upon the pitta dosha, but it does influence the kapha dosha as well.
The Janu sirsasana (the head to knee forward bend) is suggested to be useful in getting relief from menstrual pain.
The vajrasana (thunderbolt pose) also helps to bring relief from menstrual pain because it strengthens the muscles in the pelvic region and helps in altering blood flow as well.
