Kalyanaka Ghritam

 

 

Kalyanaka Ghrita is an ayurvedic preparation and medicated ghee used in the treatment of brain and diseases of nervous system. It is an ayurvedic remedy used traditionaly for thousands of years for the treatment of epilepsy, memory loss, hallucinations and mental retardation. It is also beneficial in general debility, asthma and abdominal diseases.

 

 

 

Main Ingredients of Kalyanaka Ghrita

 

 

 

The main ingredients of Kalyanaka Ghrita are clarified cow’s butter, Indian valerian, Indian gooseberry, Indian sarsaparilla, three myrobalans, cardamom, Wild cherry, Himalayan cedar, Indian madder, Sandalwood etc.

 

 

 

Pharmacological action of Kalyanaka Ghrita

 

 

 

Kalyanaka Ghrita pacifies vata and pitta humours of the body. It soothes the nervous system and enhances the capabilities of the brain. Therefore, it is used to improve memory and intelligence. It is also effective in other neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s diseases due to its protective effects against damage of nervous tissues.

 

 

 

In epilepsy, it is more effective in the secondary form of epilepsy due of lesion in central nervous system or idiopathic epilepsy.  Moreover, it has been also beneficial in symptoms present due to alcohol withdrawal, stress, brain tumours and use of illicit drugs.

 

 

 

It is also general brain and body tonic. Therefore, it is also helpful in general debility and fatigue, stress, memory loss, anaemia etc.

Side effects and Precautions of Kalyanaka Ghrita

 

 

There is no side effects mentioned in ayurvedic texts or reported by clients as such from prescribed therapeutic dosage of this preparation. It is advisable that ayurvedic medicine and treatment are generally considered to be safe when taken under the supervision and guidance of an Ayurvedic Doctor, but rarely may be associated with possible adverse reactions in individual cases.
