Mahamasha thailam is ayurvedic oil used for neurological and muscular diseases. It can be used externally in massaging affected body parts as well as orally for treating neurological ailments. It is beneficial in hemiplegia, paralysis, joint stiffness, deafness, tinnitus, locked jaw, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.



Main Ingredients of Mahamasha thailam



Black gram (Phasleolus Mungo) is a main ingredient of mahamasha thailam. Other ingredients are Aegle marmelos, Premna mucronata, Oroxylum indicum, Gmelina arborea, – Stereospermum suaveolens, Desmodium gangeticum, Urarica picta, Tribulus terrestris, Solanum indicum,  Solanum xanthocarpum etc.



Pharmacological action of Mahamasha thailam



Mahamasha thailam pacifies vata humor. It possesses anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. Therefore, it is beneficial in osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis when applied externally over the affected parts.



It has strengthing impact over nerves and widely used in diseases of nervous system. It is used in neurological ailments internally as well as external in massage. Massage of this oil strengthens the muscles and improves blood circulation to the affected area, by which affected parts of body get proper nutrition.



It aids in improvement of functions of affected parts. In internal uses, it also works by providing strength to the body parts. Moreover, its internal use increases production of synovial fluids and beneficial in osteoarthritis.



It is also used to treat tinnitus.  2 to 4 drops are instilled in ears and also taken orally with milk. As per ayurveda, tinnitus is due to vitiated vata humor. It pacifies the vata and treats the tinnitus.
