Hair is an integral element of the human body. Healthy and shiny hair not only makes a person appear young and cheerful, but also adds to the overall charm. Almost everyone experiences hair loss at one point or the other. Baldness, medically termed as “Alopecia”, is hair loss that occurs in small patches. Hair Loss or Baldness can have a rebounding psychological effect on the health, grooming and personality of an individual. While, baldness is more apparent in men, hair loss is generally the result of apparent thinning of hair.

Treating Hair Loss Through Ayurveda

In Ayurveda, hair is an important tissue which uses the same nutrients as bones and is formed as a byproduct of bone tissues. Hair quality differs from person to person depending on the body type they have, whether Kapha, Vata, or Pitta.

  • Vata – People with Vata Body Type typically have dark, coarse, and frizzy hair
  • Pitta – People with Pitta Body Type typically have brown, blonde, silky, fine hair
  • Kapha – People with Kapha Body Type typically have thick, wavy, oily hair

Causes Of Hair Loss

The body metabolism helps in processing food content to produce nutrient plasma, which nourishes the hair. Ayurveda believes that Pitta Dosha imbalance in the body results in hair related problems. Some of the common reasons for Hair Loss are as follows:

  • Hormonal Imbalance: Imbalance in hormone, such as high concentration of DHT or dihydrotestosterone in hair follicle results in hair loss.
  • High Amount Of Sebrum: In some cases, high amount of sebrum in the scalp clogs the pore and prevents the important nutrients from seeping through and reaching the hair follicles; this can lead to hair fall.
  • Unhealthy Diet: Unhealthy diet or inadequate nutrition is the main cause of hair loss, as the body is deprived of essential nutrients.
  • Stress: Stress, anxiety and lack of sleep is a recurring problem that can cause Hair Loss.
  • Accumulation of Dirt: Accumulation of dirt in the scalp, blocks the pore of the hair and devoid the hair follicle from absorbing the essential nutrients, resulting in weakening hair roots, which eventually leads to hair fall.

The most important reason why people prefer natural or ayurvedic medicine is because, it cures baldness in a highly effective manner. When compared to other medical drugs, that can harm the hair in more than one way, natural treatment has no side effect as it is made using organic substances only.

Ayurvedic Treatment For Hair Loss

Hairfall is considered as a problem in Pitta Dosha. Thus, experts in Ayurvedic Medicines encourage people to have a nutritious diet, which is rich in Vitamin C and B, zinc, iron, sulphur, etc. In addition to this, as per the need, a patient may be advised certain dietary tips, yoga and meditation.
